In 1981 Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston released a book titled 'The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation', which detailed all 12 principles.

In this tutorial we will learn how to take a character mesh from rigging to animation using the Character Animation Toolkit (CAT) in 3ds Max. We are going to take a character mesh all the way through animation in 3ds Max. Throughout the tutorial, we will discuss workflow for an animation pipeline. We will start with rigging with 3ds Max's CAT system and learn some tips and tricks for skinning along the way. We will then talk about planning a shot and setting up a basic cameras. Finally, we take all of our assets and create a two shot animation utilizing the rig we created.

This course is aimed at the intermediate 3D software user, and is intended to introduce 3D artists to Character animation workflow in a 3D application. Taught by Kai Pedersen primarily in Cinema 4D, the program is intended to be platform agnostic, utilizing on common tools and workflows found in most 3D applications while focusing on theory and workflow. There are no small exercises to cover the basic principles of animation here; this course will cover a complete shot from start to finish. Users will learn to think about their shot, plan ahead, act out and study reference, before diving in and working through each stage of animation from blocking through to a completed shot
