In the second DVD of this series, Matt Hartle focuses on lighting, shaders, and High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) within Mental Ray for Maya. Mental Ray supports most of Maya's features, in addition to many others. This DVD shows you how to get the best use of Mental Ray to render fluids, particles, fur, geometry based paint effects, blurry reflections and refractions, area lights, contour rendering, and High Dynamic Range images.
Gnomon Workshop - Mental Ray: Global Illumination Rendering Techniques (ENG)
English | AVC1 1024x768 | MP3 128 Kbps | 1.5 GB
In the third disk of this series, Matt Hartle focuses on Mental Ray's special rendering features, including global illumination, caustics, final gathering, and image-based lighting. Using multiple examples for each topic, this DVD teaches you efficient ways of using tools, examining numerous ways to recognize and eliminate artifacts.
Gnomon Workshop - Mental Ray: Fundamentals FULLY UPDATED: Rendering Techniques (ENG)
English | AVC1 1024x768 | MP3 128 Kbps | 1.45 GB
On this DVD, Matt focuses on the fundamental implementation and functionality of Mental Ray from within Maya. He covers many areas, beginning with an in-depth exploration of the interface of Mental Ray, including the use of MEL scripts to access custom features. Next, he shows an initial scene setup using a custom naming script to label files automatically and correctly as they are output. Many other topics are covered in depth, including setting up basic frame buffers, using diagnostics to debug your scenes, various implementations of motion blur including the rasterizer (rapid motion), lens shaders, a custom shader allowing you to blur in post, depth of field, displacement utilizing the latest techniques, including a thorough explanation of ccmeshes (Catmull-Clark meshes) and how to access them from within Mental Ray for Maya.
Gnomon Workshop - How to Draw Airplanes with Scott Robertson (ENG)
English | AVC1 1024x768 | MP3 128 Kbps | 696 MB
On this DVD, Scott demonstrates the basic drawing techniques he uses when drawing aircraft. The lecture begins with a detailed look through some of his past aircraft drawings and the strategies employed while drawing them. Next, Scott demonstrates his techniques of establishing the perspective view and proportion of a couple of simple airplanes. He then draws three more aircraft for you in three different perspective views. The final drawing is then overlaid and refined into a finished line drawing. This DVD is a solid introduction to drawing aircraft of your own design in perspective, with a focus on basic perspective drawing skills.
Gnomon Workshop - Character Texturing for Production: Material and Texturing Techniques (ENG)
English | AVC1 1024x768 | MP3 128 Kbps | 4.34 GB
In this DVD, Ian textures and completes the game cinematic character he modeled in Character Modeling for Production. In this lecture, he shows different techniques to UV map objects of various complexities quickly and efficiently using 3ds Max's UV tools and DeepUV. Ian covers both hand-painted and image-based methods to create textures for the character. From there he uses various ZBrush plugins to both block-in and finalize textures and he uses BodyPaint to fix seams and to begin new textures. Ian demonstrates a variety of other techniques incorporated in the Max > ZBrush > BodyPaint pipeline and shows you how to enhance the hair created in his first DVD, and take it to a more finalized level. Finally, Ian shows how you can reuse your rigs from character to character using Biped, and how to use Adobe Photoshop to add an extra level of professionalism to your final models before submitting them to a client. In this DVD Ian uses: Max, DeepUV, PolyBoost, ZBrush, ZappLink, Zmapper, BodyPaint and Adobe Photoshop .
Gnomon Workshop - Automotive Modeling Techniques: Polygon Modeling (ENG)
English | AVC1 1024x768 | MP3 128 Kbps | 3.43 GB
In this DVD, Kevin Hudson presents an overview of various issues and techniques related to modeling cars for a polygon/sub-d surface pipeline. Referencing two different cars models, Kevin demonstrates his methods for approaching each model's construction. He covers using orthographics and scale models, roughing in the car body, refining individual panels, creating surface details, building complex wheel rims and preparing the model for texturing. Kevin concludes by examining the application of his techniques to different car models.
